PRESS RELEASE: 26th NOVEMBER 2021

C-TECH RECEIVE GAME CHANGERS GRANT TO ADVANCE THE ELENDES TECHNOLOGY

We are pleased to announce that our electrochemical technology has been selected as part of NNL’s pilot Advanced Nuclear Skills and Innovation Campus (ANSIC) in collaboration with Game Changers to develop Advanced Nuclear Technologies (ANTs).

We will receive funding from the department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) through the ANSIC scheme to develop and expand on our already successful ELENDES and EASD technologies.

The funding will be used to accelerate the deployment of our ELENDES® process technology towards full deployment. The ANSIC pilot will allow us access to NNL’s expertise and facilities at their Preston Laboratory to generate data on radioactive waste solutions further validating the ELENDES technology to support decarbonisation.

The work, which is ongoing until March 2022, is an excellent opportunity for our team to work with experts across the nuclear fuel cycle to reduce waste and improve the management of spent nuclear fuel as part of the global drive to meet net zero targets.

THE ELENDES PROCESS

The ELENDES process was developed by our experts for the electrochemical oxidation of insoluble organic material, the technology allows for radioactively contaminated solutions that contain organic matter to be treated and made suitable for conventional downstream effluent treatment.

Dr Robert Bell, Technical Director at C-Tech Innovation said:

“I am excited at the prospect of bringing our engineering expertise on electrochemical
process development to a wider range of applications in the support of clean energy and
related areas such as Nuclear Medicine.”

“As C-Tech and NNL continue to develop a productive working relationship, access to NNL’s
knowledge and facilities will significantly accelerate our growth in the nuclear
decontamination sector.”

C-TECH INNOVATION ELENDES TEST RIG: ELENDES is an electrochemical system for the treatment of insoluble and immiscible organic matter which is contaminated with metallic radionuclides. An effective solution for use on nuclear sites as part of decommissioning processes, reducing treatment times, effluent volumes, and decommissioning costs.
