Our clean electrochemical process is proven at production-scale, to date C-Tech Innovation have installed vanadium electrolyte production facilities in the UK, USA, and Australia, and with ongoing projects in Australia and South Africa.

At C-Tech Innovation we have developed a novel electrochemical technology capable of manufacturing vanadium electrolyte without requiring additional chemical reagents. This electrochemical manufacturing route is a direct electrochemical reaction from vanadium pentoxide and sulfuric acid. The result is a high purity electrolyte with a reduced operating cost.

Our Electrochemical Capability

We design a complete solution for the installation of vanadium electrolyte manufacturing facilities; we blend our technology and engineering expertise to provide a comprehensive solution from design of the electrolyte plant through to installation and commissioning at the facility.

We build our equipment on site, with full installation and commissioning.

We deliver full project management and work with our clients at every stage of the process. We provide a detailed design service for the electrochemical modules as well as instructing an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for conventional balance of plant (BOP). We then move into the site installation stage and complete right through to commissioning and maintenance.

Purity of the vanadium electrolyte used is key to the lifetime of VRFBs. Traditional methods use a wet chemistry approach which requires additional chemical reagents which introduces impurities and can adversely affect VRFB lifetimes.

At C-Tech Innovation, we have fully commercialised a direct electrochemical reduction process that is energy efficient and results in a high-quality electrolyte free from by-products.

Our process offers inherent flexibility due to its modular approach with scalability and wide operating range giving significant turndown capability.

  • Avoids the need for the use of additional chemical reagents necessary to overcome the poor solubility of vanadium
  • Avoids the formation of by-products that necessitate further down-stream processing of the electrolyte
