Environmental Technology

Our environment is ever changing and becoming more precious. Legislation, corporate and collective responsibility and economics are encouraging us to think more carefully about resource efficiency and our concept of ‘waste’. C-Tech has long been associated with environmentally beneficial technologies, including the development of both cleaner technologies and more efficient processing methods.

C-Tech Innovation has developed an in-depth expertise covering a broad range of “Environmental” technologies, including waste treatment technologies and resource efficiency. Our work covers such diverse aspects as potable water treatment, solid and liquid waste treatment, material recovery, thermal waste treatment, energy from waste, aerobic and anaerobic digestion and renewable energy.

Our knowledge and capability spans many applications including:

• Use of Ionic Liquids in industrial applications for example to replace volatile organic solvents, dissolving of polymers, and electroplating operations
• Treatment of industrial aqueous effluent streams (e.g. UV/catalytic or electrochemical degradation of organic materials, removal of toxic metals)
• Technologies for disinfecting drinking or process water and for sewage processing (e.g. electrochemical reactors, ohmic heating)
• Recovery of chemicals and metals from industrial process effluent streams (e.g. chemical intermediates, valuable base and precious metals)
  
• Recovery of metals and polymers from secondary sources (e.g. WEEE, batteries, catalysts)
• Generation of energy from waste streams (e.g. thermal and microbiological treatment of food industry wastes)

Our considerable experience in technology development and prototyping is particularly relevant to our Environmental Technology activities. Our excellent research, development and scale-up design capabilities and workshop facilities have been applied to the above applications and can be tailored to your specific needs.

C-Tech has also extensive experience in the use of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and carbon footprinting to define and optimise the environmental impact of a product or process on the environment. We have worked in such diverse fields as polymers, food production, water treatment, cosmetics production, surface engineering, printed circuit manufacture, waste treatment and bioreactors.
