Domestic Water Heating
Compact, energy-efficient, and limescale-resistant water heating systems
Ohmic heating is an energy efficient way of heating water either continuously flow or in batch quantities. It uses an electrical current, passed directly through the body of the material, to cause rapid, uniform heating without the use of hot heat transfer surfaces.
C-Tech Innovation is transferring the known benefits of industrial ohmic heating into everyday household items. The technology has been successfully miniaturised and can be delivered via control systems and materials which are suitable for consumer markets and mass production processes. We have shown in a demonstration unit that an ohmically heated electric shower can rapidly and responsively provide hot water and maintain performance since limescale build up is avoided.
The lifetime of ohmic kettles are greatly prolonged in hard water areas compared to conventionally heated products and these, and similar products like steam irons, also offer the advantage of near-silent water boiling.
